Boots to Roots was created to support military personnel as they transition from military service into meaningful, purpose-driven civilian careers — rooted in regenerative agriculture, land stewardship, and community resilience.
We believe veterans possess the leadership, discipline, and work ethic our working lands need. At the same time, nature offers a powerful healing environment for those navigating the challenges of post-service life. Boots to Roots brings these needs together.

Veterans Learn:
-
Veterans will learn how to build resilient grazing systems that heal the land while improving livestock performance. Training covers rotational and adaptive multi-paddock grazing methods, forage assessment, stocking rates, and recovery periods. Participants practice planning grazing schedules that optimize animal nutrition, boost soil carbon, and reduce erosion.
-
Participants learn the daily management skills needed to run safe, efficient livestock operations. Veterans receive hands-on instruction in animal handling, nutrition, low-stress stockmanship, health assessments, calving and birthing support, and vaccination protocols —preparing them for leadership roles on working ranches.
-
Veterans learn how to restore degraded land and protect one of agriculture’s most critical resources: water. Veterans leave with the ability to assess soil health, implement restoration plans, and design conservation systems that promote long-term land productivity.
-
Safety and operational efficiency are emphasized through extensive equipment training and ranch infrastructure planning. Veterans learn proper operation and maintenance of ATVs/UTVs, fencing tools, water systems, and other essential equipment.
Boots to Roots delivers immersive training programs based on California’s Central Coast that blend classroom education, hands-on field experience, community engagement, and pathways to career placement.
Beyond training, we provide mentorship, peer support, leadership development, and job placement assistance — ensuring veterans graduate with practical skills and real employment pathways.
